Use Stick-On Temp Streifen to Monitor Barrel Temperature in Summer

Summer is fast approaching, and temperatures have already begun to rise. In many parts of the country, temperatures are already unseasonably high. Summer can make barrels heat up more quickly, and you don’t want that to happen. Overheating barrels can affect accuracy, and excessive heat can damage barrel life. How can you monitor the temperature of your barrel? You can check to see if the barrel feels “warm” but this method is not very precise. There is a better way — using temperature-sensitive strips. McMaster.com, an industrial supply house, offers temperature strips that can be stuck on with values ranging from 86 to 140? McMaster.com (an industrial supply house) offers stick-on temp strips with values ranging from 86? F. A package of ten (10) horizontal strips (item # 59535K13), costs $14.06. The strip will change from black to green when placed on the barrel. There is also a “general-purpose” strip that goes up to 196 degrees. (See bottom row).
