March 22nd 2022 Bryan Litz shared a smart tip that explains how bullet jacket damage can affect the projectile’s Ballistic Coefficient. Bryan Litz Ballistics’ new Facebook page contains this tip. Bryan recommends that you subscribe to the Bryan Litz Ballistics Facebook page to receive the latest information. This is often what we see when we run Doppler Radar at Applied Ballistics Mobile Lab events. A bullet with a consistent BC (1% or less) may be shooting by someone who is seeing a higher BC variation. This could be due to bullet damage during loading. The lead photo shows the badly scratched jacket of a bullet sitting in a rough-mouthed box. To prevent jacket damage, one should chamfer and deburr the case mouths, and smoothen them after trimming. This variation can lead to vertical dispersonation at long ranges. This can lead to larger groups and lower scores.
