Video: Pistol Mounted Light and Laser Fundamentals

If you don’t live in a house that is dark after sunset, you will likely need a system that can increase your defenses in low-light situations. Thugs would rather work the graveyard shift, after all. A laser sight and/or weapons light can be a useful addition to a defensive handgun. However, the benefits of these devices go beyond attaching them to an accessory rail. Jamey Caldwell is a former special operator and instructor for 1-Minute Out. He explains the basics of both systems in this video. He uses a Walther pistol and Surefire X400 Ultra (white light, red laser combination) in the example. However, much of what he explains can be applied to other devices. Shooters should focus on the operating system, how they will turn it on or off, when they choose one of these devices. It’s not a good idea to have a laser or light that isn’t working in battle heat because it can be difficult to turn on. You must also ensure that your lasers are properly zeroed at the exact same distance as your iron sights. You should also consider how large the overall device is. There are many do-all systems out there, but some might not work for your style of concealed carry. Disclosure: Some links in this post are affiliate links.
