RELATED STORY XTREME BEAUTY: Wilson Combat EDC X9 Pistol Tested The Wilson Combat EDC X9 Frame Constructed from machined T6-7075 aluminum, it is roughly the same size as a traditional single-stack 1911. The grip features Wilson Combat’s starburst design, which is smaller than a standard 1911 in circumference but retains the traditional 1911 controls. An ambidextrous safety can be purchased for an additional fee, although the thumb safety is only available for right-hand use. The X-frame design also uses hammer spring tension to hold the grips in place. The disassembly of the grips is also easy with a single punch. There are no screws or frame bushings. The ergonomic oval shape of this grip, combined with an enlarged trigger guard windows and your choice of radiused or straight trigger pad lengths, is comfortable for all hand sizes. It also improves recoil control. The Wilson Combat X-Trac tread pattern is also used on the EDC X9’s front and back straps for better retention. The subcompact slide assembly, which is designed to handle the different power levels of 9mm ammunition, is mounted atop the frame. The single lug cone match-grade 1911 barrel is also contained within the slide. The slide can be operated even when under duress thanks to the X-TAC rear cocking striations. The slide is made of stainless-steel and features the most advanced black DLC physicalvapor deposition finish. It also has chromium underlayers. The 3.25″ slide is resistant to corrosion and abrasion for a long time. According to the company the tri-top slide is extremely reliable in all conditions, even when it is heavily fouled or low on lubrication. The front Tactical Concealment Battlesight and the fiberoptic front sight can be interchanged. You can also dial in the performance with a user-replaceable extraction. The EDC X9 is equipped with a 15-round magazine, but it also accepts an 18-round magazine. It also fits most holsters that are made for subcompact 1911 pistols.
