Visions of the Outdoors with Jim Borden for Thanksgiving

November 25, 2021. Readers are familiar with Jim Borden, a Hall of Fame shooter who also owns Borden Accuracy/Borden Rifles. Jim won 10 IBS National Championships and set 10 IBS world records. He was also inducted into the Benchrest Hall of Fame for 1996. Jim is more than a great shooter. This highly-trained engineer is a true Renaissance man. He is equally skilled with cameras and benchrest rifles. Jim is an accomplished outdoor photographer with a large portfolio of landscape and wildlife photos. We are featuring some of Jim’s favorite nature photos in our Thanksgiving-day edition. We hope you enjoy them as much shooters love Borden’s Rimrock benchrests and Rimrock hunting actions. Jim grew up in Pennsylvania’s rural countryside and learned about shooting from an early age. He began hunting with his grandfather and father at the age of nine. Jim was inspired by his grandfather’s passion for photography, and he also became interested in it while he was hunting. Jim started using SLR cameras in 1970s and often carried cameras on hunts. Jim began to be more interested in “shooting the animals” with a camera than a gun over the years. Jim switched from film to digital in 2006. In 2007, Jim’s wife Joan began accompanying Jim on photo safaris. Jim is passionate about elk, moose and eagles, and Jim also enjoys scenic shooting. Joan and Jim both shoot Nikon professional equipment. Their photographs can be viewed at www.Borden-Photo.com. Jim’s images, along with tips for photographers, can be found on his JandJB wildlife photography blog. All in the Family
Jim’s grandfather, a gunsmith, taught Jim the trade while he was young. Jim’s grandfather and father owned a country business, which included an auto repair shop and welding. There was also a small lathe and forge. Penn State University gave Jim a degree as a Mechanical engineer. He worked as an engineer and a project manager/engineering manager for Procter and Gamble (P&G). Borden Rifles — A Success story

Borden Accuracy/Borden Rifles is a trusted source for precision benchrest rifles and hunting rifles for many decades. Jim began gunsmithing by himself while competing in high-power silhouette matches and benchrest. Jim started his business in 1987 and worked nights and weekends while still working at P&G. Jim and Joan, his wife Joan, took over the business when it became full-time. The business was expanded with the construction of a new Springville, PA facility. In 1999, John and Jim Jr. joined the team. John Mecca, the son-in-law, joined the business in January 2000. The Borden shop continues making some of the best rifles and actions in all of the world. Joan tells us that there has been a significant increase in the number of high-quality precision hunting rifles made by Borden in recent years. Jim and his company began making Rimrock benchrests and Rimrock hunting action in 2001. In 2006, they added Borden Alpine to their product line. They also added Borden Alpine and Timberline actions in 2006. Visit BordenRifles.com or call 570-965-2505 to learn more. You can also email info [at] bordenrifles.com.
