Watch.45 ACP with 73,000 frames per second video

What if you were able to see a bullet speeding out of the muzzle in milliseconds? What a cool idea… The Mythbusters (Adam Savage & Jamie Hyneman), have made it possible. The Mythbusters used an exotic Phantom super-high speed camera that runs at 73,000 frames per seconds to record a.45 ACP round being fired from a 1911 type handgun. Watch Mythbusters Super-Slow-Motion Pistol Video:

Watch the FULL SCREEN video to see the incredible details of the flames and smoke that exit the muzzle. The scene is breathtaking. The bullet shoots out of the 1911 barrel in a ball of fire. Two distinct swirling clouds then form as it races towards the target. It’s fascinating to watch the video several times. Adam Savage, co-host of the show, is almost speechless when he sees the Phantom’s slow-motion footage. The video, which was filmed at 73,000 frames per seconds, reveals a dance between pressure and fire. This would be missed by an unaided eye.
