FREE GUN FRIDAY: GIVEAWAY BERETTA AX A1 CARRY +500 ROUNDS OF MMO Close [embedded material] Anyone who has been bullied at school or has a big brother has experienced a headlock. They’re not fun and the person performing them is in a dominant position. You’ll soon realize that you are the one who is in control when you learn how to escape headlocks. Let’s clarify. RELATED STORY: Learn how to escape headlocks and parry the jab with a basic MMA technique. In real-life situations, things can get chaotic, violent, and fast. Your attacker will not be compliant. Prepare mentally for the intensity and aggression of the conflict as you train. When you are in a headlock, there are two things that you should remember. Your left hand and your right hand are free. Both hands remain free, and one is conveniently behind your attacker. In the opposite, at least one of your attackers’ hands is occupied. Keep in mind that if your attacker’s support hand isn’t holding the headlock tightly, it is likely punching you in both the face and the head. You must act quickly. Fight Dirty – If you find yourself in a headlock while fighting on the streets, it is time for you to get dirty. Particularly in today’s volatile social environment. You should first get close to the attacker’s hip/leg, keeping your hip/leg behind his. Don’t let your guard down. It is very difficult to regain control of the situation if you lose control. As with all techniques, the closer you are the body, the more control it gives you. Next, use the free hand to strike the groin as if you were cracking walnuts. You can punish them like they owe money. You will make your attacker defensive. Even if your attacker closes his legs to block you strikes, he is acting defensively and distracted. Next, reach the other hand behind his back and wrap it around his head to grab his face. You can, for example, stick a finger in his eyes, grab his nose/ear/hair and pull back. If you don’t want to lose a single finger, do not grab his mouth. In combatives, there is an old saying that “where the head goes the body follows.” This is particularly true here. Pulling back on the attacker’s head/face, lift your hip into his hip. This will act as a fulcrum. Continue to pull the attacker’s face/head down until he is thrown over your hip and to ground. His mid-section is open to punishment because he is leaning forward over your hip. If he is extended, a few blows to his solar plexus will cause the diaphragm spasm and make it difficult for him breathe. This will give you plenty of time to get out. Front Headlock Escape – A front headlock is different from a standard one. He doesn’t have anything behind him, like a hand or a leg. You may also find yourself in a worse situation if you strike the attacker’s groin. If you are in a front headlock, grab his hips and forcefully turn them to one side. If necessary, which is very likely, punch the attacker’s side to the back, while pulling the other side forward. For balance, take a wide stance while at his side. Next, grab the leg in front of you and lift it off of the ground. Your opponent will then be off-balance to your rear. You can then follow your opponent to the ground and choose the best option for you. You can start your ground training if you have done any MMA, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu or similar. If you don’t have formal training, however, you can start hurling aggression down like hailfire. This is a good opportunity to make distance and get out. Proper training promotes success. When you learn a technique to combat violent assault, it is important that you practice it force-onforce with a qualified instructor. Violent assault must not be faced with prejudice. You only know what you can do when you are trained to do it. Archilochus, the Greek soldier, once stated that “we don’t rise to our expectations, but we fall to our training.” Knowing how you can escape headlocks is only half of the battle. It takes practice and training to escape a headlock with full force under duress. It is important to have the right mindset to do what is necessary. But that is another story. Keep it real, and you’ll be safe. Sign up for the Personal Defense World newsletter today to stay in the loop!
