GIVEAWAY BERETTA: FREE GUN FRIDAY APX A1 Carry + 500 ROUNDS of Ammo Close [embedded text] Planning prevents piss poor performance, as the old saying goes. The term was originally used by the British Army to describe military planning. However, it can be applied to any aspect of life. This is a discussion about the proper setup of a battle belt. Grant Lavelle explains how to set up range drills efficiently in this video. RELATED STORY Get classy: A legit, multi-day pistol training class ups your game Learn how to set up a proper battle belt. A battle belt is an outer belt that supports your pistol, magazines, and other accessories. It can carry a heavier load than a standard belt when combined with an inner belt. These belts are designed for combat and range drills, and they are not suitable for concealed carry. The video focuses on the magazine pouches when discussing how to set up your battle belt. Your magazines should be properly arranged so that you can feed your gun quickly. Grant uses his pistol more so he places his three pistol magazines first followed by one AR magazine. Because it holds more rounds and takes longer to expend, Grant places the AR mag pouch further back. This means that it requires less reloading. Grant says, “I set up my pistol mag so that, when I retrieve it with my support hand I am able to face the magazine forward.” This ensures that the magazine will flow correctly into the mag when I draw. It shouldn’t be staged in different directions.” But, for the AR mag he points the rounds forwards so they are facing forward when he draws it. It is therefore oriented correctly to his AR mag well when he draws it. Holster Placement The user will decide which holster to use and where it should be placed. Grant says that not everyone has the same shoulder mobility. Grant prefers to keep his gun holster under his shooting arm. Because he doesn’t have the best shoulders, he doesn’t like it to be in the front or back. This allows him to secure the firearm in case of a fight. Regarding keeping it in the front, he says, “In front of the hip I run into a lot of problems when I’m working my leg up and down–either running or squatting–interfering with the holster.” Filling the Additional Space The space on the back of the belt can be utilized for more mission specific accessories. Grant has his set-up for training and range so he chooses a dump pouch. The dump pouch allows Grant to easily pick up and store his magazines. This is a great option for reloaders who want to protect their shell casings. Grant’s last piece of gear is his medical kit. Grant says that the med kit is extremely important. It is important to me that it is accessible by my dominant hand. This isn’t my only med kit that I have at my disposal when I go to the range. I also carry an ankle med kit and a separate, blow-out kit bag. I always have it with me when I go to the range. My battle belt also contains pressure bandages and tourniquets. I will usually have it within reach of my dominant shot hand so that I can retrieve it fairly easily.” Grant has more information on how to set up your battle belt.
