What level of accuracy is “Good Enough” in Your Discipline’s Discipline?

January 31, 2023 What level of accuracy is “Good Enough?” for your discipline?
Jim See of Elite Accuracy shot this impressive 15-round group.

A 2-MOA rifle is sufficient to “clean” most stages in the rapid-fire 3-Gun match. For the short-range group benchrest, however, you will need a rifle that shoots in “ones”. In perfect conditions, 0.1-0.19 MOA The top shooters in F-Class competition at 1000 yards want a rifle that can hold one-third of the vertical at that distance. What is the definition of “good enough”? Jim See, a skilled gunsmith who is also a successful PRS competitor, recently answered this question for his tactical discipline. A rifle that can hold half-MOA (five shots), 3/4-MOA (15 shots), and 1 MOA (20 shots) is ideal for Jim See’s matches. Jim’s rifle can even do this with factory ammunition. Below is a 15-shot group shot using.260 Remington Federal Premium Ammo. “I always say it, my loads must print 5 under 1/2? 10 under 3/4? and 20 under 1?. It’s easy, if a barrel can hold 20 rounds in succession under my standard, it will be a good barrel for Precision Match Shooting. Federal Premium Gold Metal Match.260 with Sierra bullets was my choice today. 15 consecutive shots below 3/4 MOA. Jim SeeIt is said that accuracy can never be too high, but there are acceptable standards in each discipline. A rifle/ammo setup that only delivers half-MOA will disappoint a Benchrest shooter at 100/200 yards. Jim See, a PRS competitor, can achieve great success even with a lower level of precision. This allows you to save time and money. This allows you to run your barrels for longer periods of time between cleanings and also means that you don’t need to be obsessive when loading your ammo. The PRS shooter doesn’t need to weigh-sort primers or load powder according to single-kernel standards. The performance is proof. Jim See was third at the Spearpoint Shootout and has been a podium finisher at many other events. EliteAccuracy.com has more information about Jim’s gunsmithing skills and training operations. This Load Development Target is available for download. Jim’s target looked familiar. AccurateShooter.com developed this Diamond and Dot Target several years ago. There are lines that align your cross-hairs and are marked with high-contrast black horizontal or vertical lines at each aiming point. The gray circle allows you to see the bullet impacts above without obliterating any red diamonds. This is very useful for precise aiming (we place fine cross-hairs at the points of the diamond). Below each of the three target points, you will find data entry tables. Although there are many other targets available, this one is the most popular. We are happy to see Jim use it. This and many other FREE Targets can be downloaded from the AccurateShooter.com Target Page.
