To be honest, I wish I looked as good as I did when I was 45. Wilson Combat could have given me a makeover like the one on the CQB model to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the company. Wilson Combat knows how, despite all the jokes, to mark an anniversary in striking fashion, and subtle beauty. The 45th Anniversary Special Edition CQB Wilson Combat is a throwback to the retro style that helped build Wilson Combat’s foundation in the late 70s and early 1980s. This 45th Anniversary CQB 1911 is subtle in style. The carbon steel frame is hand-polished and has a blue finish. It also comes with premium, hand-crafted desert ironwood grips. The grips are smooth and show off the incredible grain. A front strap with 30 LPI checkered and a rear strap that provides excellent retention for firing are also available. The slide’s right side features the words “45th Anniversary” in a stylish script just before the ejection port. The left side also features Wilson Combat markings, which are reminiscent of earlier models. The slide features a slide top with coarse serrations and slide cocking serrations to the rear. Wilson Combat has reverted to the classic custom touches for this 45th anniversary piece. It also features a retro Bullet Proof Beavertail safety grip. Another level of safety is provided by the Swenson-style ambidextrous thumb security. A traditional Bo-Mar style adjustable rear view is paired with a staked ramp for the front sight. This combination gives a sight radius around 6.6 inches. The retro Commander-style Commander hammer, chambered in either 9mm or.45 ACP, sends rounds downrange from an eight- or 10-round magazine. A contoured magazine well allows for quick combat reloads. Editor’s Note – $4,000 is a lot to spend on a pistol. I am right there with you. This is a great piece if you have the money. Wilson Combat really elevated the cool factor with this anniversary 1911. Full disclosure: I’m a history geek so I love retro things.
