Many northern states are experiencing extremely cold temperatures, with snow everywhere. Indoor training is the best option for American firearms enthusiasts in colder climates.
AccuWeather forecasters warn of a significant storm that could bring heavy snow, rain and strong winds to the East Coast. Click HERE to view Accuweather Weather Report. This article explains the most important points to remember when shooting indoor ranges. Safety first! You must adhere to all rules for safe gun handling. Even before you reach the range, ensure that your guns are safely transported and comply with all local laws. Some states require that ammunition and firearms be transported in separate containers. FIVE IMPORTANT SAFETY PROCEDURES for Indoor Ranges1. The Three Fundamental Rules for Safe Gun Handling
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Until you are ready to fire, keep your finger away from the trigger. Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it. Follow all Range Officer Instructions
Range Officers are the final and most authoritative authority on any range. Their decisions are usually final. Arguments with Range Officers could lead to you being fired. Don’t bother others or touch their guns
If there is a safety concern, respect other shooters’ privacy. If you are unable to resolve a safety issue, do not engage other shooters. Instead, inform the RO. Never touch or handle another shooter’s firearms without their permission. Know your Range’s Rules
Review and understand any and all range rules and requirements/expectations. What is the maximum rate of fire for this range? Is it allowed to collect your brass? 5. Know what to do during a cease fire
You must immediately place your firearm downrange and move away from the shooting booth or bench. Range Officers don’t want shooters trying “secure/unload” firearms in a cease-fire situation. They want shooters to immediately get away from the shooting booth (or bench). These behaviors are dangerous and irresponsible. Any of these actions can result in you being permanently banned from an indoor range. It is very dangerous to sweep other people after loading a weapon. Your weapons should all be empty by the time you reach your shooting position. To clear a malfunction or insert/remove magazines, turn the handgun sideways. This will cause the muzzle to point at another shooter. Or, the shooter may fail to clear the weapon after firing it and place the gun near the shooting station with its muzzle in an unsafe position. Unpredictable reactions when firing a high-recoil handgun. We have seen people accidentally fire a second shot with the muzzle off target. Not following range orders, especially when shooting during cease-fires. Poorly directed shooting that hits carrier frames or targets, causing ricochets.
We recommend quality muffs that have earplugs underneath for indoor shooting. This doubles your protection. You need to have effective hearing protection when shooting at an enclosed range with other shooters right next to you. You also need to be able hear range commands and communicate. We recommend electronic muffs that have plugs underneath for indoor rifle and pistol shooting. These muffs have a 30 dB noise reduction rating (NRR). These muffs are very comfortable and have Headphone Functionality, which allows you to connect to your phone, MP3 player, or any other audio device. These muffs can be purchased at Walmart for $66.85 and Amazon for $66.85.
