Nikki was raised on a large dairy farm in Western New York, and still resides there today. This environment has shaped her love for the outdoors. It is also how she developed a passion that drives her to spend as much time fishing and hunting as possible. Hunting is not about the kill. It is about the experience, the memories and the moments. In her article Late Season Whitetail Tips and Tactics, Nikki shares many practical and smart tips. Here are some examples: Deer can be found if you look for food. Bucks can lose as much as 30% of their bodyweight during the rut. They tend to focus on their stomachs and then put weight back on after the rut. The key to success could be identifying hot food sources in the region. Deer are on edge after opening the gun. In order to ensure that deer don’t use my property as a safe haven, I keep the pressure at low levels in the area I hunt. It is important to adapt the game plan and modify it if the wind is not blowing in my favor. I believe in hunting the wind. I will not hesitate to move to another stand or use scent blockers if I feel I am being spooked by wind. Binoculars are a great tool for finding bucks and watching their movements without getting too close. It’s great to know the most popular travel routes and to scout them, but it can be frustrating if you don’t know what path they will choose. Instead, you can watch the bucks from afar.
